Book of Psalms 7:1-17

Book of Psalms 7:1-17

The Book of Psalms, chapter 7

is all about Lord Jesus, trust, war, the wicked, and lies?

In You Do I Take Refuge

A David psalm, which he sang to the LORD, because of the words of Cush, a Benjamite.

Cush the Benjaminite was among evil men from King Saul’s tribe who spied and spread vicious rumors for pay and approval (2 Sam 22-24, 26).

Remember, we are applying Psalms to our own lives, not to David life.

Psalms is a prophecy book that is quoted from more than any other book of the Old Testament.   It was written for us today. Let’s look at from a different perspective on how it applies to us.   Always put Jesus right in the middle of the Book of Psalms and us right there.

Psalms 7:1 LORD, my God, I seek refuge in you. Deliver me from those who persecute me! Rescue me!

Summary: The Saints come to you, Lord Jesus, that we have trusted, and for protection, and to save us from all the wicked that persecute your Saints.

What do we have with Jesus

Hebrews 6:18 so that by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have taken refuge would have strong encouragement to take hold of the hope set before us.

Two unchangeable things from Jesus are the promise and the oath of Jesus, our Lord, each of which would be a firm ground of the assurance of salvation, and in each of which it would be impossible for God to lie.

Psalms 7:2 Otherwise, they will rip me to shreds like a lion, tearing me apart with no one to rescue me.

Summary: Please, Lord Jesus, do not allow your Saints enemies like a lion and to rip us to pieces with no one to rescue Your Saints

Remember David had witnessed a lion who had captured its prey, and he compares his own fate to being captured and torn apart. {1 Sam 17:34}

Satan, the chief of all persecutors and who instigates individuals against the Saints, and his helpers, the demons are after us with the spirit of Satan

Now Satan prowls the earth, seeking to hinder all he can from choosing salvation and living a life of obedience.

1 Peter 5:8 Be clear-minded and alert. Your opponent, the devil, is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.

2 Timothy 4:17-18 However, the Lord stood by me and gave me strength so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the gentiles could hear it. I was rescued out of a lion’s mouth.  (18)  The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will take me safely to his heavenly kingdom. Glory belongs to him forever and ever! Amen.

Jesus by His Word will rescue us.

Psalms 7:3 LORD, my God, if I have done this thing, if there is injustice on my hands,

Summary: Lord Jesus, our God, if your Saints have done this thing, if there is injustice on our hands,

This is where David was refers to the crimes of which he was falsely and wrongly accused.  Is this how Satan accuse us before the Father and people of authority.

Psalms 7:4 if I have repaid my ally with evil or without cause have robbed my foe

Summary: if your Saints have rewarded those who did us good with evil, if Your Saints have plundered our enemy without justification,

David is saying he has not done this that he knows of.  Are we, As saints,  not to pray and give water to our enemies.

Proverbs 25:21-22 If your enemy hungers, give him food to eat; and if he thirsts, give him water to drink.  (22)  For you’ll be piling burning coals of shame on his head and the LORD will reward you.

Psalms 7:5 then, let my enemy pursue me, let him overtake me, and let him trample my life to the ground. Interlude Let him put my honor into the dust.

Summary: Please have mercy on your Saints when you correct us, Lord Jesus and do not let our enemies correct us when we break your commands

These are solemn words that David spoke to God. These words does apply to us, except we all have sin and continue to sin and go to the Father and ask forgiveness.  We are His Saint, part of the Body and future Bride of our Lord, Jesus.

1 Corinthians 4:4 For my conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent. It is the Lord who examines me.

1 John 3:21-22 Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence in the presence of God.  (22)  Whatever we request we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him.

What sin have we done against others, probably gossip, not praying for someone when asked to, not helping out the Brethren when we can, etc.

As a Believer, we are to

1 Thessalonians 5:15 Make sure that no one pays back evil for evil. Instead, always pursue what is good for each other and for everyone else.

Are we guilty of the crimes laid to my charge by Satan to the Father.

Revelation 12:10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say, “Now the salvation, the power, the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Messiah have come. For the one who accuses our brothers, who accuses them day and night in the presence of our God, has been thrown out.

Romans 8:34 Who is the one to condemn? It is the Messiah Jesus who is interceding on our behalf. He died, and more importantly, has been raised and is seated at the right hand of God.

1 John 2:1-2  My little children, I’m writing these things to you so that you might not sin. Yet if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus, the Messiah, one who is righteous.  (2)  It is he who is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the whole world’s.

Psalms 7:6 Get up, LORD, in your anger! Rise up, because of the fury of my enemies; Arouse yourself for me; you have ordained justice.

Summary:  Lord Jesus, Get up in your anger! Rise up, because of the rage of Saints enemies; Arouse Yourself for us; You have ordained justice.

Jesus had righteous anger and did not sin. {Be angry and do not sin – Eph 4:26}.  This is what we are to do, have righteous angry.  We should be outraged by injustices, violence, greed, poverty, abortion, and death that is all around us. Satan and his demons are behind it all.

Psalms 7:7 Let the assembled peoples gather around you, while you sit enthroned over them on high.

Summary: Let the assembly of the Saints gather around You, Lord Jesus and You will sit high above them.

Lord Jesus will be doing and assume the judgment seat, to be honored and given to Him from the Father.

Psalms 7:8  For the LORD will judge the peoples. Judge me according to my righteousness, LORD, and according to my integrity, O Most High.

Summary: For the Lord Jesus will judge the Saints. Judge us according to our righteousness and to our innocence, O Most High.

We are in a Spiritual and Physical battle right now.  We know we are not alone in this battle.  One of Satan’s tactics is to make us think that we are in this battle all by ourselves.

Satan plan is to feed lies to our minds, isolate each of us {physically and mentally}, and speak half-truths to each of us.  Satan sends government officials against the Saints, you and me, with this lockdown of business and churches.

John 10:10 The thief {Satan} comes only to steal, slaughter, and destroy. I have come that they may have life, and have it abundantly.

Hebrews 2:11 Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters.

Ephesians 6:12 For our struggle is not against human opponents, but against rulers, authorities, cosmic powers in the darkness around us, and evil spiritual forces in the heavenly realm.

The Father does not see our righteousness, what He sees is Jesus righteousness in us, since Jesus lives in us.

Psalms 7:9 Let the evil of the wicked come to an end, but establish the righteous. For you are the righteous God who discerns the inner thoughts

Summary: Please Lord Jesus, bring an end to the violence of the wicked and establish your righteous Saints with your covering. For You are the Righteous God who discerns the inner thoughts of Your Saints.

The wicked will remain until Lord Jesus Returns to the earth to set up His Kingdom and gives them a new heart.  The Saints received the Holy Spirit with a New Heart.

To search or try “the heart and the reins” is an expression frequently used in the Bible to denote that God knows all the thoughts and feelings of people; that is, that he thoroughly understands the character of all people, especially the Saints.  {example Jer 17:10}

Psalms 7:10 God is my shield, the one who delivers the upright in heart.

Summary: Lord Jesus is our shield and saves your Saints who loves You and follows Your commands

Jesus protects the believer like a military shield, an invisible defense, our guardian Angels.

The wicked will not come to an end until the start of the Millennium and then for a very short period at the end of the Millennium.

1 Peter 5:10  After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you by the Messiah Jesus to his eternal glory, will restore you, establish you, strengthen you, and support you.

Ephesians 6:16 In addition to having clothed yourselves with these things, having taken up the shield of faith, with which you will be able to put out all the flaming arrows of the evil one,

Psalms 7:11 God is a righteous judge, a God who is angry {or wrath} with sinners {wicked} every day.

Summary: Lord Jesus, you are the righteous Judge and condemns Your Saints enemies, the wicked

2 Timothy 4:8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord {Jesus}, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

Romans 1:18 For God’s {Jesus} wrath is being revealed from heaven against all the ungodliness and wickedness of those who in their wickedness suppress the truth.

Lord Jesus continually calls the wicked to repentance by some sign of His judgments.  He does not want to be around sin continually and at His 2nd coming, will stir up all His wrath what the wicked has done to the Saints.

Psalms 7:12 If the ungodly {wicked} one doesn’t repent, God will sharpen his sword; he will string his bow and prepare it.

Summary: Unless the wicked Repent, Lord Jesus is preparing for war with His Sword and Bow

Jesus is the great warrior of war and is preparing the battle against the wicked who are persecuting against the Saints.  Unless the wicked repent, Jesus will slay the wicked in battle, known as Armageddon.

Lord Jesus is a God of War with military weapons {Isa 59:17}

Psalms 7:13 He {Jesus} has prepared his deadly weapons; he makes ready his flaming arrows.

Summary: Lord Jesus instruments of deadly, burning arrows are the means of putting the wicked to death

Jesus deadly weapons, diseases of various kinds, judgments, and famine, pestilence and war,  4 horsemen.  Arrows for burning would be appropriate for against armies.

Psalms 7:14 Whoever is pregnant with evil conceives trouble and gives birth to lies.

Summary: The Wicked person thinks up evil on others, conceives mischief and practice deception and gives birth to lies.

Pregnant: The wicked become “mothers” to trouble. They will give birth to their own destruction.  Interesting choice of words.  Wicked men labor to do evil.

The wicked are as a woman with child, and eagerly desires to bring it forth, and is in pain till he commits it;  forming a plan of evil.

James 1:14-15 Instead, each person is tempted by his own desire, being lured and trapped by it.  (15)  When that desire becomes pregnant, it gives birth to sin; and when that sin grows up, it gives birth to death.

Psalms 7:15 He digs a pit, even excavates it; then he fell into the hole that he had made.  {there is a number of verses like this in Psalms}

Summary: The Wicked person digs a pit and then falls into the pit they have dug.

The wicked schemes for the destruction of others prove his own ruin even before he has completed them.

1 Corinthians 3:19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. As it says in the book of Job, God uses man’s own brilliance to trap him; he stumbles over his own “wisdom” and falls.

Psalms 7:16 The trouble he planned will return on his own head, and his violence will descend on his skull.

Summary: The violence the Wicket plans for the Saints will come down upon his own head

The punishment of the wicked described from another point of view as the natural result of his own actions. He falls into the snare which he laid for others.

An example of this

Matthew 27:3-5 When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders.  (4)  “I have sinned,” he said, “for I have betrayed innocent blood.” “What is that to us?” they replied. “That’s your responsibility.”  (5)  So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself.

Psalms 7:17 But as for me, I will praise the LORD for his righteousness, and I will sing to the name of the LORD Most High.

Summary: The Saints will give thanks and praise to Lord Jesus and will sing praises to His Name, LORD Most High.

Psalms 5:8 LORD, lead me in your righteousness because of my enemies. Make your path straight before me.

The Saints will praise Jesus for His righteousness in me, for His justice, and His mercy, and above All Things.

This chapter of Psalms 7 illustrates in the defense of Father servant, Lord Jesus and punishment of the wicked.
