7 Spirits of God

7 Spirits of God

What does the Scriptures brings to light about the 7 Spirits of God.  Let’s learn something about the 7 Spirits of God compared to the Holy Spirit.

Revelation 1:4 John, To the seven churches in the province of Asia: Grace and peace to you from him who is, and who was, and who is to come, and from the seven spirits before his throne,

Revelation 3:1 “To the angel of the church in Sardis write: These are the words of him who holds the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars. I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead.

Revelation 1:20 The mystery of the seven stars which you saw in My right hand, and the seven golden lampstands: The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands which you saw are the seven churches.

Revelation 4:5 And from the throne proceeded lightnings, thunderings, and voices. Seven lamps of fire were burning before the throne, which are the Seven Spirits of God.

The significance of the seven-branched candlestick in relation especially to the Spirit is suggested in Zechariah 4.

Zechariah 4:2 And he said to me, “What do you see?” So I said, “I am looking, and there is a lampstand of solid gold with a bowl on top of it, and on the stand seven lamps with seven pipes to the seven lamps.

Zechariah 4:10 For who has despised the day of small things? For these seven rejoice to see The plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel. They are the eyes of the LORD, Which scan to and fro throughout the whole earth.”

Revelation 5:6 Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing at the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. The Lamb had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the Seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth.

In the Bible, horns stand for power, strength, and the authority to rule

Seven eyes of the Lamb: Sent out into all the earth indicates that the Lamb knows exactly what is going on in the rest of the created realm while He is in the heavenly throne room.  Denotes completeness able to survey all things and to operate everywhere.

“Eyes” symbolize His all-watchful Spirits and wise understanding for His Church, and against her foes, being sent forth by Jesus at his command, ready to do His will, into all the earth.  Apostles same command given.

As a side.  Do you have a dollar bill handy.  Look at the back and see the eye of God.

The Eye of Providence (or the All-Seeing Eye of God) is a figure that depicts an eye, enclosed in a triangle and surrounded by rays of light or glory, meant to represent divine providence whereby the eye of God watches over the United States.   The Eye of Providence appears on the reverse of the Great Seal of the United States  which is on the back side of the United States one-dollar bill.

Here is a hint, what the 7 spirits are.

Isaiah 11:2 The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.

Spirit of the Lord will rest on Jesus:

The Spirit of the Lord {Holy Spirit?}

  • The Spirit of wisdom:
  • The Spirit of understanding:
  • The Spirit of counsel: advisement, plans and decisions
  • The Spirit of might: power, strength
  • The Spirit of the knowledge: awareness
  • The Spirit of fear of the Lord: reverence

Isaiah 4:4 When the Lord has washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and purged the blood of Jerusalem from her midst, by the Spirit of judgment and by the Spirit of burning,

Let’s take a closer look at the Holy Spirit.

Through the power of the Holy Spirit, believers are saved, filled, sealed, and sanctified. The Holy Spirit reveals God’s thoughts, teaches, and guides believers into all truth, including knowledge of what is to come. The Holy Spirit also helps Christians in their weakness and intercedes for them.

We are a new creation, combine with the spirit in man and the Holy Spirit

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Job 32:8 But there is a spirit in man, And the breath of the Almighty gives him understanding.

John 20:22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, Receive the Holy Spirit.     {Became Saints}

Lord Jesus breathed on them and received the Holy Spirit and are now a new creation.  Same thing happen when Lord Jesus breathed on the first man and received the spirit in man.  Received power at Pentecost.

Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

{Became and had a spirit in man}

John 14:26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

Provides wise counsel to the Saints

Clothed with power from heaven:

Luke 24:49 I am sending to you what my Father promised, so stay here in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”

The Holy Spirit is power, we are clothed with it when we receive the Holy Spirit.

What are some names, titles, and characteristic of the Holy Spirit

John 16:7-8 Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.  (8)  And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

Dove:

Matthew 3:16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him.

Why a Dove: A Dove wings make an unusual whistling sound upon take-off and landing,

Dwells in Believers and fills them:

1 Corinthians 3:16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?

1 Corinthians 6:19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;

Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  (23)  gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

1 Corinthians 12:1 Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed.

1 Corinthians 12:7- 9 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.  (8)  To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit,  (9)  to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit,

1 Corinthians 12:10-11 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.  (11)  All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.

  • message of wisdom,
  • message of knowledge
  • message of faith
  • message of gifts of healing
  • message of working of miracles
  • message of prophecy

Guide us in all truth, including knowledge of what is to come:

Holy Spirit works in the lives of believers to renew, sanctify, and make us holy. Just as the Holy Spirit raised Christ from the dead, the Holy Spirit will give eternal life to believers in Christ.

Holy Spirit is a Promise:

Luke 24:49 Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry {wait} in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued {or clothed} with power from on high.”

        Is a Source of Revelation, Wisdom and Power

1 Corinthians 2:10-11 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.  (11)  For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.

As a side, the term of Holy Spirit is mention 3 times in the Old Testament.

Psalms 51:11 Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.
