Edom, Edomites, Idumaean verses Israel
We know genes can carry diseases, inherited Genetic Disorders, on through generations in our personal family tree. Ex. Diabetic, Asthma, Heart disease, breast cancer, lung cancer and prostate cancer plus other things.
It also depends on how you live and your environment.
What about feelings, likes and dislikes about others.
About groups that hates the Jewish people, or blacks, whites, or different groups. Is this also about in our genes or something else. Why does some Jews hate Israel and the Jewish people and the United Sates. Is there an outside influence involved.
We talk about Satan broadcast to the world. Is his broadcast different to each person. We have a hint in the book of Job, where Satan is allowed to test Job. This is why we pray for our family member, children, grandchildren, etc.
Job 1:10 Have You not made a hedge {means protection, fence} around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. {Is this what Our Lord has done for us, personally to protect us against enemies, weather, etc, this is what we are to keep praying}
Satan had to have permission to do this, vs. 14,15, 17 enemies controlled by Satan – took animals and killed the servants.
Job 1:16 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants, and consumed them; and I alone have escaped to tell you!” {Shows Satan have control of fire from heaven}
Job 1:19 and suddenly a great wind came from across the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young people, and they are dead; and I alone have escaped to tell you!” {Satan control the wind, storms also}.
Edom was an ancient kingdom that is mainly associated with Esau and his descendants in the Bible. Being descendants of Abraham, the Edomites were related to the Israelites. But they did not always act as brothers.
The name Edom means “red,” which is easily linked with Esau, who sold his birthright for red stew and thereby earned the name Edom.
Genesis 25:30 And Esau said to Jacob, “Please feed me with that same red stew, for I am weary.” Therefore, his name was called Edom.
Bozrah and Petra (or Sela) were notable cities in Edom, with Bozrah being the capital and central city of the kingdom. Why are these cities important.
The nation of Edom existed before the Israelites left Egypt, and the Lord commanded the Israelites not to attempt to take the land from the Edomites as they passed through, since He had given the land to Esau.
Deuteronomy 2:4-5 And command the people, saying, “You are about to pass through the territory of your brethren, the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir; and they will be afraid of you. Therefore watch yourselves carefully. (5) Do not meddle with them, for I will not give you any of their land, no, not so much as one footstep, because I have given Mount Seir to Esau as a possession.
Moses and the Israelites asked permission to cross through the land of Edom on their journey out of Egypt, but they were refused passage by the Edomite king.
Numbers 20:20-21 Then he said, “You shall not pass through.” So Edom came out against them with many men and with a strong hand. (21) Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his territory; so Israel turned away from him.
From this point on in the Bible, Edom is mentioned as Israel’s enemy, and the two nations fought frequently.
Both Saul and David fought against the Edomites, with David conquering them and forcing them into labor
1 Samuel 14:47 So Saul established his sovereignty over Israel, and fought against all his enemies on every side, against Moab, against the people of Ammon, against Edom, against the kings of Zobah, and against the Philistines. Wherever he turned, he harassed them.
2 Samuel 8:14 He also put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom he put garrisons, and all the Edomites became David’s servants. And the LORD preserved David wherever he went.
The Edomites continued to be a problem for the Israelites and even raided Judah after it fell to the Babylonians. Were enemies Satan control.
Ezekiel 25:12-14 ‘Thus says the Lord GOD: “Because of what Edom did against the house of Judah by taking vengeance, and has greatly offended by avenging itself on them,” (13) therefore thus says the Lord GOD: “I will also stretch out My hand against Edom, cut off man and beast from it, and make it desolate from Teman; Dedan shall fall by the sword. (14) I will lay My vengeance on Edom by the hand of My people Israel, that they may do in Edom according to My anger and according to My fury; and they shall know My vengeance,” says the Lord GOD.
This began to come to pass when Edom was pushed out of their land and taken over by the Nabateans. After the Edomites were driven from their land by the Nabateans, they migrated to the southern part of Israel and became known as Idumeans.
Edomites, Ammonites and the Moabites are classic enemies of Israel. Under the rule of Babylon, Edom declines, they pay heavy tribute. They’re allied with Nebuchadnezzar at the fall of Jerusalem in 587 B.C. and they were overjoyed at the fall of Judah, their traditional enemy. The whole book of Obadiah is a prophecy against Edom.
Edomites cheered at the fall of Jerusalem under Nebuchadnezzar, 587BC, and the Edomites were the ones defending Jerusalem when it fell under the Romans in 70 A.D. you see the irony of the inversion.
Psalms 137:7 Remember, O LORD, against the sons of Edom The day of Jerusalem, Who said, “Raze it, raze it, To its very foundation!“
Psalms 137:9 Happy the one who takes and dashes Your little ones against the rock!
Lamentations 4:21-22 Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, You who dwell in the land of Uz! The cup shall also pass over to you And you shall become drunk and make yourself naked. (22) The punishment of your iniquity is accomplished, O daughter of Zion; He will no longer send you into captivity. He will punish your iniquity, O daughter of Edom; He will uncover your sins!
Obadiah 1:10-12 “For violence against your brother Jacob, Shame shall cover you, And you shall be cut off forever. (11) In the day that you stood on the other side; In the day that strangers carried captive his forces, When foreigners entered his gates And cast lots for Jerusalem; Even you were as one of them. (12) “But you should not have gazed on the day of your brother In the day of his captivity; Nor should you have rejoiced over the children of Judah In the day of their destruction; Nor should you have spoken proudly In the day of distress.
Obadiah 1:13-14 You should not have entered the gate of My people In the day of their calamity. Indeed, you should not have gazed on their affliction In the day of their calamity, Nor laid hands on their substance In the day of their calamity. (14) You should not have stood at the crossroads To cut off those among them who escaped; Nor should you have delivered up those among them who remained In the day of distress.
Mark 3:7-8 But Jesus withdrew with His disciples to the sea. And a great multitude from Galilee followed Him, and from Judea (8) and Jerusalem and Idumea and beyond the Jordan; and those from Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, when they heard how many things He was doing, came to Him.
Pompey conquers Judea, Herod Antipater, an Edomite appointed, 63 bc. The Edomites become Idumaean. Idumean has a governor by the name of Antipater about 63 B.C. who gives birth to a man by the name of Herod who becomes Herod the Great, and thus is the beginning of the Herodian dynasty, that is about 37 B.C. So King Herod is not Jewish, he is an Idumaean.
Now, Herod the Great, an Idumean, appears on the scene.
When Jewish High Priest, John Hyrcanus { according to Josephus and Ptolemy} conquered the region of Idumean (the Edom of the Hebrew Bible in 140–130 BCE}, he required all Idumaeans to obey Jewish law or to leave; most Idumaeans thus converted to Judaism, which meant that they had to be circumcised and many intermarried with the Jews and adopted their customs.
While Herod publicly identified himself as a Jew and was considered as such by some, this religious identification was undermined by the lifestyle of the Herodians, which would have earned them the dislike of observant Jews.
Mark 3:6 Then the Pharisees went out and immediately plotted with the Herodians against Him {Jesus}, how they might destroy Him.
It was Herod who tried to kill the infant Jesus in Bethlehem; through Herod, the rebellion of Edom continued.
By 66 CE, during the First Jewish – Roman War, the Zealot leader Simon bar Giora attacked the Jewish converts of Upper Idumaea, and brought near complete destruction to the surrounding villages and countryside in that region.
According to Josephus, during the siege of Jerusalem in 70 CE by Titus, 20,000 Idumaeans, under the leadership of John, Simon, Phinehas, and Jacob, joined the Zealots as they besieged the Temple.
After the Jewish – Romans wars, the Idumaean people disappear from written history, though the geographical region of “Idumea” is still referred to at the time of Jerome, 345 ad.
We know at the end time, when Lord Jesus returns, He will return to Bozrah {Edom} and then go to the mount of Olives.
Satan world army pursues the faithful remnant, which fled to the mountains of Edom in Jordan.
Bozrah and Petra (or Sela) were notable cities in Edom, with Bozrah being the capital and central city of the kingdom. Why are these cities important.
The Armies at Bozrah The {Satan} world army pursues a faithful remnant, which fled to the mountains of Edom in Jordan.
Jeremiah 49:13-14 For I have sworn by Myself,” says the LORD, “that Bozrah shall become a desolation, a reproach, a waste, and a curse. And all its cities shall be perpetual wastes.” (14) I have heard a message from the LORD, And an ambassador has been sent to the nations: “Gather together, come against her, And rise up to battle!
Micah 2:12 “I will surely assemble all of you, O Jacob, I will surely gather the remnant of Israel; I will put them together like sheep of the fold, Like a flock in the midst of their pasture; They shall make a loud noise because of so many people.
Bozrah (Sheepfold): Bozrah is pinpointed, which was located in the region of Mount Seir, on the western side of Edom in southern Jordan. An ancient sheepfold had a narrow entrance so that the shepherd could count his sheep, and, once inside, he could guard a single entrance to contain them. (I am the door, John 10. Sela, now Petra, fits the description, shaped like an ancient sheepfold, with a narrow passageway opening up to a spacious city surrounded by cliffs.
Hosea 5:15 I will return again to My place Till they {Judah} acknowledge their offense. Then they will seek My face; In their affliction they will earnestly seek Me.”
Sela, now Petra, fits the description, shaped like an ancient sheepfold, with a narrow passageway (the Siq) opening up to a spacious city surrounded by cliffs.
Matthew 24:15-16 “When, therefore, you see the abomination of desolation, which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand), (16) then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.
When the faithful remnant petitions Jesus to return, He comes to rescue them.
Matthew 23:39 For I tell you, you will not see me from now on, until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’”
Petra in Edom, fighting for His remnant of believers. He is described as covered with the blood of His enemies.
From Bozrah to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. The Antichrist {Satan} is powerless before Christ (Hab 3:13; 2 Thess 2:8; Isa 14:3-11, 16-21). His armies are destroyed (Zech 14:12-15; Joel 3:12-13) at Bozrah
the Lord will come from Edom (modern-day Jordan) and Bozrah in blood-stained clothing on “the day of vengeance.
Isaiah 63:1-4 Who is this who comes from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? Who this who is glorious in his clothing, marching in the greatness of his strength? “It is I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save.” (2) Why is your clothing red, and your garments like him who treads in the wine vat? (3) “I have trodden the wine press alone; and of the peoples, no one was with me: Yes, I trod them in my anger, and trampled them in my wrath. Their lifeblood is sprinkled on my garments, and I have stained all my clothing. (4) For the day of vengeance was in my heart, and the year of my redeemed has come.
Isaiah 34:5-6 “For My sword shall be bathed in heaven; Indeed it shall come down on Edom, And on the people of My curse, for judgment. (6) The sword of the LORD is filled with blood, It is made overflowing with fatness, With the blood of lambs and goats, With the fat of the kidneys of rams. For the LORD has a sacrifice in Bozrah, And a great slaughter in the land of Edom.
Joel 3:12-13 “Let the nations be wakened, and come up to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; For there I will sit to judge all the surrounding nations. (13) Put in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe. Come, go down; For the winepress is full, The vats overflow—For their wickedness is great.”
The Victory Ascent upon the Mount of Olives: His ultimate victorious return to the Mount of Olives is described in Zechariah. That leads to the establishment of the Lords Millennial Kingdom on the Earth.
Zechariah 14:3-4 Then the LORD will go forth And fight against those nations, As He fights in the day of battle. (4) And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, Which faces Jerusalem on the east. And the Mount of Olives shall be split in two, From east to west, Making a very large valley; Half of the mountain shall move toward the north And half of it toward the south.
Back to the original subject, maybe we can see why some so cause Jews, hate Israel and the Jewish people. Might because of their background and the direct influence of Satan on people.
