War in Heaven: We are going to look at just Scriptures
Who are the 3 Main Archangels in heaven involved in this war?
Michael: The Warrior Archangel, is always seen as a defender of God, His throne, and His people Israel.
Gabriel: The Messenger Archangel, stand in the presence of God and serves as a messenger for God to certain people, Daniel, Zacharias/Elisabeth, Mary/Joseph, etc.
Lucifer: The Administration Archangel – Lucifer does not hold the power of knowing what’s going on throughout the world and in all the realms is only possible by the Lord himself and he cannot be present at all places at the same time. Remember, Lucifer has an army of millions of demons.
We are going to look at just Scriptures, without speculations, except for the Gap theory. Maybe, a couple other things.
There is a thing called “The Gap Theory” in the Scriptures referring to Genesis 1:1 and 2, between the two verses is there a large time period between vs. 1 and vs.2 when this war happen. The war happen before the creation of man.
Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
We know everything Jesus created, is good and perfect.
1 Timothy 4:4 For everything God created is good, and nothing should be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving,
Genesis 1:31 Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
Genesis 1:2 The earth was {hayah} without form {tohu}, and void {bohu}; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
The word “was” is hayah, means had become, just as in Gen 19:26 and other places in the Scriptures, Lot’s wife became a pillar of salt.
The word “form” is tohu, without form, confused
The word “void” is bohu, empty, waste
Express one concept: Chaos, this what Satan is doing to our country today.
The earth had been reduced to this state: Chaos
Jeremiah 4:23 I looked at the earth, and it was formless and void, at the heavens, and there was no light there.
It was not the way God had first created the earth, it was good.
Isaiah 45:18 For this is what the LORD says, who created the heavens; he is God, and the one who formed the earth and made it, and he is the one who established it; he didn’t create it for chaos, but formed it to be inhabited—”I am the LORD and there is no other.
Was this when the war in heaven started, Satan rebellion? When were the angels created? Real question: Is there a gap between v. 1 and v.2.
- When we go from perfect creation to destruction, a war.
- Wondering, The Asteroid Belt between Mars and Jupiter, was this a planet that was destroyed by Lucifer and his angels in their rebellion?
- Earth was destroyed on the surface, holes on the moon. Etc.
- Angels witnessed the foundation of the earth {Job 38:4-7}
Job 38:7 When the morning stars sang together, And all the sons of God shouted for joy?
Let us look at Lucifer, also known as Satan, the devil.
Isaiah 14:12 How you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations!
This title truly belongs to Jesus, and hereafter to be assumed by Satan and Antichrist, wanting to be called God and be God.
Revelation 22:16 “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.”
Jesus calls Himself the bright Morning Star.
Isaiah 14:13-14 You said in your heart, ‘I’ll ascend to heaven, above the stars of God. I’ll erect my throne; I’ll sit on the Mount of Assembly in the far reaches of the north; (14) I’ll ascend above the tops of the clouds; I’ll make myself like the Most High.’ {notice less stars in north sky – war}
The Hebrew word that referred to the morning star was translated into Latin as Lucifer and the name means “Light-Bearer” or “Light-Bringer”) for the morning star.
2 Thessalonians 2:4 He {man of sin} opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god and object of worship. As a result, he seats himself in the sanctuary of God and himself declares that he is God. Man of sin, Antichrist
Satan Rebellion in Heaven
John 8:44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
Ezekiel 28:12 “Son of man, take up a lament concerning the king of Tyre and say to him: ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: “‘You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
Ezekiel 28:13 You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone adorned you: carnelian, chrysolite and emerald, topaz, onyx and jasper, lapis lazuli, turquoise and beryl. Your settings and mountings were made of gold; on the day you were created they were prepared.
Satan was a created angel, guardian cherub, by Jesus.
Ezekiel 28:14-15 You were anointed as a guardian cherub, for so I ordained you. You were on the holy mount of God; you walked among the fiery stones. (15) You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created till wickedness was found in you.
Was Satan Anointed as guardian cherub for Jesus’s creation on the earth, for protection, since he was to take care of the earth?
Was Satan Ordained by laying on of hands in official ceremony?
Ezekiel 28:16 Through your widespread trade you were filled with violence, and you sinned. So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God, and I expelled you, guardian cherub, from among the fiery stones.
Satan was a created being, he had a choice, free moral agency, he chose the wrong Way of Life, Satan chose the Way of Death, and his character is now set since he is compose of spirit.
Ezekiel 28:17 Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. So I threw you to the earth; I made a spectacle of you before kings.
The Devil is still the prince of the power of the air. He is the one who is in charge of the kingdoms of our world, whether we recognize it or not.
Satan is on the earth, lives on the earth and does have access to the Throne of Jesus.
Remember, Satan cannot be removed from his position as in charge of the earth, He has to be replaced and that is what Jesus has done. Remember, Satan said he can give all these nation to Jesus.
- A common misconception is that Satan and his demons were locked away in hell after the fall of Satan.
- It is clear from many Bible passages that Satan was not barred from heaven or the earth after his first rebellion, which predated the creation.
Now called Satan; appears before God to accuse Job
Job 1:6-7 One day the angels came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came with them. (7) The LORD said to Satan, “Where have you come from?” Satan answered the LORD, “From roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth on it.”
Is this required of Satan to present himself before Jesus. Probably, since Satan is in charge of the earth and one of the highest angels rank.
Job 2:1-2 On another day the angels came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came with them to present himself before him. (2) And the LORD said to Satan, “Where have you come from?” Satan answered the LORD, “From roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth on it.” {Satan is on the earth to check his kingdoms?}
Job 2:7 So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD and afflicted Job with painful sores from the soles of his feet to the crown of his head.
Now called Satan; appears before God to accuse Joshua, the High Priest
Zechariah 3:1-2 Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right side to accuse him. (2) The LORD said to Satan, “The LORD rebuke you, Satan! The LORD, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebuke you! Is not this man a burning stick snatched from the fire?”
In Genesis, he visited the Garden of Eden and tempted Eve.
He tempted Jesus in the wilderness before Jesus began His ministry.
The question arises that, if Satan had already rebelled and been cast from heaven before the world was created, why is he free to be in heaven and on earth?
We know there are three heavens. Third Heaven is where the Father is. The second heaven is the universe or outer space, and the first is our atmosphere or air.
Ephesians 2:2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. {Satan is the ruler of the kingdoms}
Ephesians 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
In this age, Satan and his highest ranking angels can still oppose the work of God and hinder the angels of God within the boundaries of the middle or second heaven.
Daniel 10:10-11 “All of a sudden, a hand touched me and lifted me upon my hands and knees. (11) He told me, ‘Daniel, man highly regarded, understand the message that I’m about to relate to you. Stand up, because I’ve been sent to you.‘ When he spoke this statement to me, I stood there trembling.
Daniel 10:12 “‘Don’t be afraid, Daniel,” he told me, “because from the first day that you committed yourself to understand and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard. I’ve come in answer to your prayers.
Daniel 10:13-14 But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of Persia. (14) Now I have come to explain to you what will happen to your people in the future, for the vision concerns a time yet to come.”
Daniel 10:20-21 So he said, “Do you know why I have come to you? Soon I will return to fight against the prince of Persia, and when I go, the prince of Greece will come; (21) I’ll inform you about what has been recorded in the Book of Truth. No one stands firmly with me against these opponents, except Michael your prince.
Is this Gabriel bring the message to Daniel and Michael fought against Satan/Demon for 21 days in and another 21 days out. Interesting.
Remember Michael fought over the body of Moses
Jude 1:9 Even the archangel Michael, when he argued with the devil and fought over the body of Moses, did not dare to bring a slanderous accusation against him. Instead, he said, “May the Lord rebuke you!”
It seems like Satan is in complete control of the earth and when on the Archangels come down from Heaven, they have to fight their way in and way out. Michael is an archangel.
The battle recorded in Revelation 12 removes Satan and his demons from ascending into the heavens.
- John sees a great war between Michael and the angels of God and the dragon (Satan) and his fallen angels or demons that will take place in the end times.
- Satan, in his great pride and delusion that he can be like God, will lead a final rebellion against God. It will be a cosmic mismatch.
- Thus, the dragon and his demons will lose the battle and be thrown out of heaven forever.
Revelation 12:1 A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head. {woman is Nation of Israel}
Revelation 12:2 She {woman} was pregnant and cried out in pain as she was about to give birth.
Nation of Israel {woman}, Jesus born, came to be a human, lived, died on the cross and resurrected and now sits at the right hand of the Father.
Revelation 12:3 Then another sign appeared in heaven: an enormous red dragon with seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns on its heads.
Revelation 12:4 Its tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to the earth. The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that it might devour her child the moment he was born.
Satan had his demons waiting to kill Jesus when He was born and anytime before He returns to the Father. Joseph / Mary had to flee. Children killed.
Notice, this was before the start of the main actual, final war in heaven
Revelation 12:5 She bore a male Child who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron. And her Child was caught up to God and His throne.
Jesus return to the Father, caught or taken up to 3rd heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father.
Acts 1:9 After saying this, Jesus was taken up while those who had gathered together were watching, and a cloud took him out of their sight.
Revelation 12:6 The woman fled into the wilderness to a place prepared for her by God, where she might be taken care of for 1,260 days.
How long, but 3.5 years in the place of safety.
The Book of Revelation describes a war in heaven between angels led by the Archangel Michael against those led by “the dragon”, identified as the devil or Satan, who will be defeated and thrown down to the earth.
Satan Thrown Down to Earth
Now war broke out, is it because Jesus is back in Heaven.
Revelation 12:7 Then war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back.
What kind of War, Star Wars, light sabers, Fire balls, a Hint.
Things we have here, is there a spiritual one in heaven.
Hebrews 8:5 They serve at a sanctuary that is a copy and shadow of what is in heaven. This is why Moses was warned when he was about to build the tabernacle: “See to it that you make everything according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.”
The Earthly Tabernacle / Sanctuary is a copy the original in heaven.
- Moses’ Tabernacle built on earth was made according to a pattern that existed in heaven.
- This was the pattern which was shown to you [Moses] on the mountain.
- Therefore, there is a Heavenly Temple that served as a pattern for the earthly Tabernacle and Temple.
Exodus 25:40 See that you make them according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.
Jesus’ ministry as our High Priest takes place in this heavenly temple, not in the copy and shadow built on earth.
Revelation 12:8 But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven.
Notice, Satan had a place in Heaven, which he lost
Revelation 12:9 The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.
Jesus now has complete power over everything, and Satan knows he has very little of time left.
Revelation 12:10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say, “Now the salvation, the power, the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Messiah have come. For the one who accuses our brothers, who accuses them day and night in the presence of our God, has been thrown out.
Wonder sometimes if Lord Jesus gets tired of hearing Satan accuses the Saints before him.
Satan cannot do this anymore, accuses Saints before the Father, Rejoice
Revelation 12:11 Our brothers conquered him by the blood of the lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they did not cling to their lives even in the face of death.
We are talking about Jesus Saints.
Revelation 12:12 Therefore rejoice, you heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has gone down to you! He is filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short.”
Revelation 12:13 When the dragon saw that it had been thrown down to the earth, it pursued the woman who had given birth to the boy.
Revelation 12:14 However, the woman was given the two wings of a large eagle so that she could fly away from the serpent to her place in the wilderness, where she could be taken care of for a time, times, and half a time.
Place of safety, Petra, for 3.5 years, 2 witnesses protected {women} Israel fleeing to the place of protection, Petra?
Revelation 12:15 From its mouth the serpent spewed water like a river behind the woman in order to sweep her away with the flood.
Revelation 12:16 But the earth helped the woman by opening its mouth and swallowing the river that the dragon had spewed from its mouth.
Did the 2 Witness protect them with their mighty power and destroy the armies going after woman?
Revelation 12:17 The dragon became angry with the woman and went away to do battle against the rest of her children, the ones who keep God’s commandments and hold on to the testimony about Jesus.
When Satan is expelled from the third heaven, there will be great rejoicing in heaven, since the accuser will be forever be banned and not slander against the elect / Saints again. Satan’s power and freedom will be seriously curtailed.
However, the inhabitants of the earth will suffer terribly after this event, because Satan will be enraged. He will also be aware that he only has three and a half more years until he is bound and cast into the bottomless pit.
This will usher in a period of intensified suffering on earth during which the Antichrist violates his peace treaty with Israel, desecrates their temple/Sanctuary, declares himself as god, and begins to murder all those who refuse to worship him, Jews and Saints.
Revelation 20:1 Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding the key to the bottomless pit, with a large chain in his hand.
Revelation 20:2-3 He captured the dragon, that ancient serpent, also known as the devil and Satan, and tied him up for a thousand years. (3) He threw him into the bottomless pit, locked it, and sealed it over him to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were over. After that he must be set free for a little while.
